Santa Claus & The Great Escape

Santa Claus & The Great Escape

Maybe you’ve never seen the old classic film, The Great Escape, about World War II American soldiers’ creative ways to escape a prisoner of war camp. I helped in such an escapade many years ago when we lived in Houston Texas. I was driving a new white Ford château van in traffic, when suddenly some impatient jerk in front of me ran a red light. No sooner than he got through the light, a police officer quickly stopped him to exchange Christmas card addresses –my dad’s funny way of saying the police officer was writing him a ticket!

In a blink of an eye, I rushed to pull one out of the bag. The Santa Claus bag. Santa’s bag of gifts. Ya see, it was Christmas and I was wearing a full Santa Claus outfit with a deluxe white beard (like I did at our ELS Christmas Party.)

Do you suppose our Daddy in Heaven is equally forgiving when we run a red light against His rules? Do you think He might even smile & sing, “Ho, Ho, Ho. Merry Christmas” over all our defiance? That’s what the Bible says is the real meaning Merry Christ-mass. The Body of Christ broken for you.

I hope you enjoy listening to one of the many great songs that expresses our joy in receiving God’s Gift:
Ode to Joy

Joyful, joyful
We adore Thee
God of glory
Lord of love
Hearts unfold like flowers before Thee
Hail Thee to the sun above
Melt the clouds of sin and sadness
Drive the dark of doubt away
Giver of immortal gladness
Fill us with the light of day
Mortals join the mighty chorus
Which the morning stars began
Father love is reigning o’er us
Brother love binds man to man
Ever singing march we onward
Victors in the midst of strife
Joyful music lifts us Son ward
In the triumph song of life
Joyful, joyful
We adore Thee
God of glory
Lord of love
Hearts unfold like flowers before Thee
Hail Thee to the sun above
Melt the clouds of sin and sadness
Drive the dark of doubt away
Giver of immortal gladness
Fill us with the light of day
